IT'S FINALLY OVER!!! WOOOT!!!
Assessment is over and done with!! YES YES YES!!! So blardy happy words cannot explain the much needed break my brain wants!
Although still very very nervous, and obviously flunked my presentation, i was overall glad that I DID IT!!! The many months of researching and sweat and blood and rejection and tears and body-sacrificing-cuz-i-need-to-stuff-my-face-with-cakes-to-get-through-the-stress and it all boils down to this one day AND ITS FINALLY OVER!!!
Many weird things were exchanged in the assessment room like never before. Kena scolded for saying too much "LAHS". Hello i was nervous wat so didnt noticed that. My lecturers were talking about me in front of me like as if i couldnt hear wat they were saying. "She have the look and the personality for this business", "she can go work in magazines or do something blah blah". Afterwards they asked why i didnt study Fashion Design and why i chose Fashion Marketing instead. HUH?? U can ask these in the middle of the presentation meh? Like chit chat session like that so kaypoh. So me being me i kinda retort back by saying, "Guys can i finish up my presentation before u can ask me all these questions and whatever". Yes they were shocked when i say that. But i personally think it is RUDE to interrupt a formal presentation to ask questions NOT RELATED to the topic i presented. DUH!?!?
After im done presenting they asked me back the same qns. AArghhh....i answered i did not take fashion Design because i think got no prospect. OOps wrong ans. Mylecturers are DESIGNERS!!!! Shit...then they say "WAH LIKE THIS WE NO HOPE LAH. WE ARE LOSERS WITH NO FOOD TO EAT". Sheesh.
So i said i take MArketing because i always dream of setting up my own boutique and i want to know the process of selling my products effectively to the market and also be involved in the process blah blah crap crap. And it saved my ass indeed.
Im getting a C for sewing AGAIN. I knew it when my sewing teacher give me a shake head and tsk tsk noice duribg assessment AGAIN. Not surprised lah haha.
So people out there dreaming to become the next FASHION DESIGNER or whatever, here's how you do it!
Step one: Research on your FAVOURITE topic. I say favourite because if u are that type wishy-washy one u will regret it once a boring topic is chosen and its too late to change it. I did mine on the Hippies and it was FUN.
So from that research u can get a few design ideas (what they wear in that era etc etc). Try not to copy entirely the design , well, cuz of FAshion sake honey. U dun wanna look like you wear ur grandma clothes. (though its quite hip now eh? Ok thats entirely another story.) So take certain elements like their silhouette, their look, their buttons etc or their colours and afterwards sketch out probably 50 designs.
Choose ur favourite ones (i couldnt cuz this design was picked by my lecturer. Boo!) and start to look for a Pattern Making book to help you.
Step two: using the pattern making book, draft out the patterns that is similar to ur design. OK this is the toughest process u have to go through. Sometimes certain designs are just not possible to draft out and u can take days to figure out the shape of ur garment. Sometimes it doesnt fit to your mannequin or body and u have to redraft it. The fitting is very important. I did mine THREE BLOODY TIMES. I HAVE THREE BLOODY MOTHER FUCKING WASTE OF TIME PATTERN FOR A DRESS I CANT EVEN WEAR. I sew my toile TWICE and BOTH TIMES IT STILL DOES NOT FIT THE MANNEQUIN. SO i gave up. Thus the C.
ANYWAYS, once u conquered the patterns part, this is the fun part! Source for ur fabrics. Go to places like Chinatown or Arab street and dun forget to bargain. Those blood-suckers think fashion student all rich. They think we bring Dior bags to school. KNN dun be shy and ask for a reasonable price.
If u cant sew. Just bring it to ur nearest seamstress in almost every neighbourhood sure have. How much they charge depends how KNN they are. Haha.....i sure am vulgar huh.

My final garment modelled by Rachel. Funny she posed exactly like my model without knowing it.
I knew she wanted the dress so much but really sorry honey i couldnt part with it. Been through hell and back to make it look like this. Sewing and cutting the chiffon part itself took me more than 6 hours so i hope u understand yeah? hehe...
So i hope u had a blast with the process. Cuz i absolutely didnt. haha.
Hey but you know wats fun?
Post assessment pictures!!!!! YEAH BABY!!!!
